Just over two months ago, on Jan. 5, I recited the oath of office with 158 other state representatives and officially became the state representative for the 10th Suffolk District. For the next two years, I will be your voice on Beacon Hill. Since the first couple of months of the job have been a rush of activity, I want to update the community on what I have done so far and look to do for the rest of this legislative session.

Before being elected this past fall State Representative Ed Coppinger was working a standout at Roche Bros when a nun approached him to talk with him about human trafficking going on in America.
“A nun who lives (on a local street) said her order is very involved in trying to stop human trafficking across the world and she educated me on what kind of a problem it is,” said Coppinger. “Once I got sworn in, more and more people seemed to be talking about it. It seemed like a human rights issue we should be involved in.”

State Rep. Ed Coppinger joined with Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley and a coalition of legislators, district attorneys, law enforcement officials, and victim advocates to announce the filing of An Act Relative to the Commercial Exploitation of People, comprehensive legislation that would for the first time, establish human trafficking for sexual servitude or labor as a crime in Massachusetts.
